My head is spinning out of control. There is just too much stuff going on that is beyond my comprehension. I mean, can the Republican Party really be this dumb?
Maybe I should talk about how the GOP is now concerned about President Obama’s “WAR ON RELIGION.” Yep, our Commander in Chief is actually against religion, they say, suggesting that he and his staff actually spend countless hours trying to figure out how to make ours a totally secular society. Now that would be a great political strategy, wouldn’t it? I can hear Obama now, telling his staff that he wants to alienate that 80% or so of the populace that actually subscribes to a religion. Don’t worry, he assures the skeptics, we can ride that atheist vote back into the White House in November! And while we’re at it, let’s go after GOD himself. We don’t want anyone to even say HIS name in a public place. Yeah, that’s the ticket!
Or maybe we should talk about the Republican Party’s own little war on birth control. Oh, we all know about their constant attacks on abortion rights, how they are pursuing those silly “personhood” resolutions in a bunch of states. And, yes, one or two of them might even slip through, but then the next day the pro-choice groups will get an injunction and the measures will slowly make their way to the Supreme Court. At that point, when the Court suddenly has to think about how we’d be counting those little zygotes in our census, how movie theaters might have to charge for another ticket, how whether or not they should be given a tax exemption, cooler heads will prevail. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if they didn’t even take the case.
But there’s the rise of Senator Rick Santorum, who opposes using federal dollars for birth control and who even once denounced birth control as “harmful” to women and society: “I don’t think it works. I think it’s harmful to women. I think it’s harmful to our society to have a society that says that sex outside of marriage is something that should be encouraged or tolerated, particularly among the young…” I wonder what Newt thinks about that “sex outside of marriage” line? But I say go for it, Rick, tell the women in this country, including all of those good little Catholic women, that they shouldn’t be taking birth control. Yeah, that’s a clear winner!
Then there was the congressional hearing the other day on Obama’s attempt to provide better access to birth control through his health insurance program. Sure, the announced title of the hearing did not have the word “birth control” in it, but that is what they were talking about, folks. And by now everyone knows that their panel of “experts” was all men. For good reason, the videos of the testimony went viral and I could not keep from laughing when I thought of the grief that some staff person was going to get for not anticipating what the pictures of that panel would like in the media. Dumb move, guy. Not to mention totally arrogant.
This is all just too good to be true. The women in this country, including the millions of “pro-life” women who still get their monthly pills at the drug store, gotta be watching these yahoos, wondering what they are gonna do next. Obama and his crew are sitting back with the champagne on ice, watching this re-run of some black and white caveman movie.
And I didn’t even touch upon that friend of Santorum who thinks “gals” should put aspirins between their knees.
Keep it coming, boys.

The “WAR ON RELIGION.” Yep, our Commander in Chief is actually against religion, they say, suggesting that he and his staff actually spend countless hours trying to figure out how to make ours a totally secular society.
To answer the question Pat i believe that religion should be fought and i mean hard. The religious attributes that proliferate themselves into our country are as followed Abortion, and other limitations on human behavior. Sexual freedom allows for young men and women to accept life as it comes, and holding back children, holds back their future.
Religion is not in true separation of church and state. it is just quite to good to be true.

The Secular society is an ideal place in some form or another, but the founding fathers put it into terms for our country to fight. Not necessarily with everyone but, internally so. just for those who if not believe, heres a history lesson, Jefferson took the bible, cleared it of the insanity, then proceeded to write his own, Benjamin franklin once said “Light houses, are more useful than churches.”
The insanity that religion raves goes all the way back the crusades, to exorcisms occurring all over the world today, both still scoring its blade into the psychological tendencies of the greater nations.
There are many examples of the founding fathers affluence towards religion, its not surprising that the wit, influence and intelligence has trickled into our present day change.

I hinted at it last week when I concluded that Pat’s Richard’s nonsensical defense of perversion in the Girl Scouts was ingenuous, but his column this week is even worse, and my head is spinning out of control. There is just too much stuff going on that is beyond my comprehension. I mean, can Pat really be this dumb?
I like the guy so I‘m not going to post his nonsense here If you want to know what my comments refer to, you’ll have to go to abortion.ws yourselves.
First Pat attacks the Republican Party for observing that the Obama Administration is opposed to religion. But isn’t that obvious? For starters the OA says guys can marry each other, killing people must be government subsidized even in religious institutions, and children are not a blessing but a penalty. And that’s just for starters. Wait till you see what happens when Obama gets in for a second term.
Then Pat offers his reasons for maintaining that you are not somebody until somebody else says you are: you were not counted in the census until you left your mother’s womb; and she did not have to pay for you when she went to the movies; and she was unable to declare you as a tax exemption. Yup, those are his reasons. Pat evidently thinks they are so powerful that based on them the Supreme Court will probably refuse to listen to reasons why you existed before birth. Yup, that’s what he thinks!
Then he attacks Rick Santorum for saying that sex outside of marriage is something that should not be encouraged, particularly among the young. Tell that to Newt, Pat says. Tell that to Catholics. In other words, everybody does it so it’s gotta be OK – maybe not so dumb here but clearly adolescent.
His next attack is kind of hard to decipher. I guess a panel of male Republican politicians recently attempted to pull apart Obama’s “health insurance program.” I thought that was what Republicans were supposed to do to Democrats, and vice-versa. Pat says they should have had some women on the panel because what Obama was really trying to do was push mutual masturbation. Maybe Pat’s right.
I am going to quote Pat’s next paragraph: “This is all just too good to be true. The women in this country, including the millions of “pro-life” women who still get their monthly pills at the drug store, gotta be watching these yahoos, wondering what they are gonna do next. Obama and his crew are sitting back with the champagne on ice, watching this re-run of some black and white caveman movie” because I think he’s right here too.
Pat ends by implying women should be whores. Yup, that’s how he ends.

Thank you for a thoughtful summary of what the GOP fanatics are doing lately in their war against sex. Ignoring the needs of the people of this country, Congress bravely decided to discuss the allegations that a bunch of Catholic Bishops are mortally offended that any female employees might want medical coverage for birth control. Anything to divert attention from the real issues! Why are we not discussing decent housing, jobs, education, infrastructure, veterans’ needs, the list goes on. The first three comments on this blog alone highlight the need for improved mental health care, not to mention improved English language skills. The far right is so threatened that women might take control of their reproductive lives that they will ignore reality and create an alternative universe where women are confined to the role of fetus-bearers above all, and vigorously assert that any other model offends their religion. We are well on the way to a theocratic oligarchy, but there are hopeful signs that people are waking up to that threat and organizing to challenge the extremists.

My concern…how many women that are subservient…to their master (oops! I mean husband!!) will no longer go for prenatal care??? Out of fear that some corrupt OB/GYN will hold them down and “force them to have an abortion”??
Because you know that those “anti-choicers” are lovin them some Rick Santorum!!
I can NOT believe our candidates trying to grab their Republican nomination can stoop so low!!!
It is gonna be a looooong election season!!

Between the Tea Party types and the Catholic Bishops’ band of anti abortion, anti woman thugs, it’s obvious that women’s history has been misappropriated, our human rights invalidated and our intellectual agency challenged. These types see themselves as noble patriots when, in fact, they are glorified ruffians running rough-shod over women. And the sad truth is that religious conservative women will vote against their own interests out of ignorance and/or an irrational obsession with cultural differences.
I share Lorraine’s concern about subservient women, women too afraid to stand up against the tyranny of religion and patriarchy. I also agree with EFX that this country is well on the way to a theocratic oligarchy. As a country, many stood up against the Taliban. Why are we standing up to the US Taliban known as the church?

I am a christian woman not a coward who aborts their children.
Simply to avoid the responsibility of an indecent act outside of marriage.
It takes more courage to stand up for good than it does for evil.
and by the way my husband is not a dictator and I am not His servant.
We love each other and respect each others opinions.
And don’t you dare compare my church or freedom of religion to that barbarous terrorist group.
Definition of a terrorist is summoned up in one word “abortion”.
You terrorize and kill unborn children just so you can say it was my choice.
I’m sure Osama Bin Laden justified his terrorist acts just the way you do.

Lisa, the Republicans clearly do not have a preferred candidate, so they keep bouncing back and forth between the flavor of the day. This, of course, is good news for Obama. On the other hand, the minute the GOP picks their candidate, the party will coalesce around their candidate because Obama is the “devil.” And, if the economy starts to tank again, it could be a tough re-election battle…

There’s a weird brew percolating in this country when citizens label President Obama a fascist, a dictatorial leader of a centralized autocratic government. Sinclair Lewis said it best. “When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross.” No kidding, fascism has come to Capitol Hill but it’s not here via Obama. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform assembled a panel of eight male anti-choice, anti-contraception religious leaders and one female anti-choice witness to talk about contraception. This panel showed a particular brand of contempt, disdain, and dismissiveness of women that provides a window into America as a flag waving, cross-carrying theocracy–so very far from separate of church and state.

The good news, however, is that, depending on who the GOP nominates, it is within the realm of possibility that the House could go back to the Democrats this November. Some Republicans down here in D.C. are starting to get a little nervous that the tea partyers and others are pushing them way too far to the right……That’s why we got a quick deal on the payroll tax…

I just finished reading The Abortioneers latest post about, what else?, abortion. One statement struck a chord that relates to both birth control and abortion. The author wrote about the complexities involved when facing an unplanned pregnancy including whether a woman wants to be forever tied to the “sperm donor” (my term). Contraception, then, affords, sex without the commitment to the male. But when contraception fails, abortion affords the sex without the commitment to the fetus. Pretty simple.

well, with all due respect, you people DID surprisingly elect a leader who, the world thought, could pick his nose, resulting in his head caving in.
he then proceeded to lead you to war. he was an evangelical who believed that unconditional support of the state of israel would make jesus return sooner, and provided them with support to terrorize the palestinians and the lebanese, while painting the victims as terrorists.
he and his cronies evaded taxes with the companies that they lead.
he proceeded to lead the US into the greatest financial crisis in 80 years, taking the rest of the world with it.
and you elected him TWICE!
it is your country, and ultimately, you will get what you want. but don’t allow yourselves to be complacent and expect different results than you want.

ANOTHER “Too good to be true” from a hard-core misogynist who protests at abortion clinics and at directors’ & doctors’ homes in Pennsylvania and NJ, standing outside the Allentown Women’s Center, yelling at a woman:
“WE want your baby to live, THEY want your baby to die.” Gerry McWilliams
TRANSLATION: “I don’t care what you, woman, want for your life, for your existing children’s live. It doesn’t matter. What matters is that you do what I want because I know better than you. In fact, I don’t care about you. I only care that the fetus is born. After birth, you’re on your own.”
McWilliams is real doozy. He always begins his rant with “In the name of Jesus” and then selects one of his tired and trivial messages. Once when someone laughed at him, he said, “When you laugh at me, you laugh at God.” [seriously?]
