I gotta be honest with you – I enjoy reading pro-life newsletters more than pro-choice newsletters. The main reason is that the pro-lifers love to focus on what’s (supposedly) going on right there at the abortion clinics, so I get a chance to read about what some of my old friends are up to these days. In fact, I recently subscribed to LifeNews.com and so far it’s been very interesting reading!
For example, I just learned that President Obama is so intent on increasing the number of abortions in this country that, at a recent pro-choice conference, he told the attendees that he “will never back down in promoting abortion.” I wonder if that means we will soon see him wearing t-shirts promoting www.abortion.com, the website that is a directory of abortion clinics? Then, in the very same newsletter I learned that Obama recently met with – dare I say it – officials from Planned Parenthood! It seems that they were two of many people on a receiving line as the President exited from Air Force One to embark on a campaign tour in Florida. Just think about all the juicy stuff they talked about in those ten seconds that they (maybe) had his attention. What a great opportunity for these two officials to discuss how the President of the United States could get more women into those abortion clinics!
Finally, another item from this hard news service reported that the President “makes special arrangements to meet the heads of the local abortion business so they can continue pumping profits from abortions into funding his re-election campaign.” Yes, the President has no doubt met with PPFA officials but if anyone can cite me an example of the President meeting privately with an independent abortion provider, I’ll buy you a beer. Meanwhile, of course, the pro-life movement is pouring millions into the Mitt Romney campaign.
So, I was getting real excited about my new source of hard-hitting objective abortion news when, on my third day, I was brought back to reality. You see, one of the main reasons I subscribed to LifeNews.com was because it was FREE. And I guess it still is free but, bingo, on the third day I received the inevitable fundraising letter.
The hook was that Obama had just celebrated his birthday but, as LifeNews noted, he was not concerned about those poor little unborn babies who would not be celebrating their own birthdays. “A child’s birthday party is a joyous occasion with friends and family, but too many will never see their first because President Obama is committed to keeping abortion legal for another 40 years by stacking the Supreme Court with more pro-abortion activists in a second term. We can’t let that happen!” So, they asked me to send a gazillion dollars which (they don’t tell us) will first pay for staff salaries, then the rent, then their travel expenses, then the high priced consultants whose job is to raise more money and, THEN with the few pennies we have left we will fight to force women to see their child on the ultrasound machine before they go ahead with the abortion. Yeah, that’s how we will save the unborn!
No doubt people will dutifully send their money. They will take everything they just read as gospel, they will not question any of it and they will write their check to pay for the overhead of their national organizations.
I can’t wait for my next edition of LifeNews!

More from so-called prolife organizations, this time from CareNet:
Showing videos that graphically depict aborted fetuses is not consistent with a mission of offering compassionate care to abortion vulnerable women. The
primary impact of showing graphic videos to shock clients, not educate them.
Such practices can be seen as a form of manipulation and coercion. Abortion is a gruesome procedure and we should not minimize this. Yet, it is because of this gruesome aspect that pregnancy centers must remain mindful of the emotional sensibilities of clients. (CareNet, Abortion Education Guidelines)
I’m also finding this fascinating because it shows the schisms within the anti abortion industry.

John, did I get this right? You believe in the “God of Abraham, Issac, and Moses.” You rely on “the record – written, experienced, lived.”
Are you aware that Muslims believe their God, Allah, is that same “God of Abraham, Issac, and Moses.” Their record, i.e., the words and deeds of Mohamed, were written while he lived, not a couple of hundred years later. Also, Muslims didn’t have have a conclave (circa 400 AD) to decide which of the written records to use (to increase the power of the Pope) and which ones to ignore. Someday maybe the Vatican archives will be opened and people might get to see which ones were hidden away, Ha! None of us will live that long.
The “written, experienced, lived” record of Buddha is not non-existent (pardon the double negative). Maybe the part about him exploding into little crystals is suspect, but rising from the dead is suspect, too.
Then there is the very well documented Moran record, which is less than 200 years old.
One very consistent part of all the “records” is that the “founders” of those religions all spent time off by themselves (Moses on the mountain, Buddha Jesus and Mohamed off in some wilderness, and Smith is the Vermont woods). One wonders (no historical record, unfortunately) what hallucinogenic plants they ate.
You are free to pick and choose which records to believe, but yours is still strictly faith based, just like all the others.

You’re asking for a debate, Dave, you know, where you pile up all the arguments. I concede. I’m a terrible debater. I can’t handle more than one, perhaps two, thoughts at a time.
That’s why I really didn’t get past Allah. Mohamed got his idea of God from the Arians. They said Jesus was not God, just another prophet, as was Mohamed, who said he was Jesus’ superior. They substituted the Koran for the Bible. Ever contrast them?
LikeLike
August 14, 2012 at 5:04 pm
Line by line? Hell, no. A comparison would be a waste of time and is irrelevant to the discussion as to reliance on records.
Muslims claim the Koran gives the correct words of Jesus. Muslims say Mohamed got his ideas while out in the wilderness (just like Jesus). They believe the Pope’s conclave altered the words of Jesus (history suggests the conclave did do that), so God called on Mohamed to straighten it out. This was documented within Mohamed’s lifetime. So if you rely on records, you should be a Muslim.
(That’s more than one sentence, but its just one argument. It is irrelevant where Mohamed might or might not have actually got his ideas. Ditto, Jesus. Opps, a second argument. Ignore it.)
Fact – you can’t handle even one idea at a time, but that’s for a future debate.
LikeLike

OK, so I believe the Muslims are in schism, and you believe, I guess, that they form the true religion.
Next, I don’t know much about Buddha. I do remember someone contrasting that religion with Christianity by comparing the Buddha, fat silent, indrawn, with St. Francis, emaciated and out-pouring. What’s the Moran record?
Fact — you can’t handle one idea so you pile one on the next hoping we’ll forget the inanity of each.

Did I even hint that I believe Islam is “the true religion?” I did not. You said your faith is supported by historical records. I simply pointed out that other religions have “records” and, in the case of Islam and the LDS church, the records are considerably more sound that those of Christianity.
BTW, since both Islam and the LDS church are anti-choice, you can simply change religions and still continue assaulting women! Opps, that would be a second idea. Sorry to make things so hard for you.
(Note – Buddha’s physical characteristics are irrelevant with regard to the record of his time).

My only belief isn’t anti-Catholicism. I am anti any repressive individual or group – government, religious, political, individual or whatever. Catholicism just happens to be repressive. So are you. Many other Catholics are not. My Dad’s mother was a Catholic, but he was not raised to be one. He had no siblings. She took my sibling and me to many Catholic services, but never tried to indoctrinate us. My sibling converted to Catholicism and is a nice person who does not try to force personal views on others.
Whenever you try to avoid my arguments by going off-topic I will remain free to use “Irrelevant.”

I like you, Dave, you’re literate (unusual on this blog). But you’re as screwed up as the illiterates. Literacy, though, makes my job of conversion easier. Pat, Kate, Rog, and Chuck are on the cusp.
Funny that your sibling became Catholic. Funny too that your Catholic grandma did not raise her son Catholic but exposed her grandchildren to it. I think we’re getting somewhere.
Tell me more about forcing personal views.

Good line of argument, David. Agree that John can’t handle even one idea. And speaking of one idea, for those who vote along the so-called prolife liine (which translate anti woman), may I direct your attention to a worthy article on RH Reality (Google RH Realitycheck[dot]org and the title of the article)
Carol Joffee has an interesting article posted on RH Reality Check titled
“Paul Ryan’s Missing Children and Mitt Romney’s Forbidden Grandchildren”
The article raises questions about birthcontrol in the Ryan household and the use of IVF technologies for several of Romney’s grandchildren—-both reproductive issues that are verbotin in the radical right.
