Susan Hill and I were having lunch at the Mayflower Hotel years ago when she informed me that she was opening up another abortion clinic, this time in Jackson, Mississippi. I looked at her incredulously and asked her why? “Because the women down there need a good facility” she answered.
I had known Susan for many years by that time. She was a vivacious, articulate woman who could sweet talk anyone to get what she wanted. She’d also rip your lungs out if you crossed her. At that time, she ran seven abortion clinics in cities like Jacksonville, Raleigh and Fort Wayne. She also owned what had to be the most famous abortion clinic in the country, the Fargo Women’s Health Organization – the only clinic in the state. Because it was all by itself in that conservative part of the country, it was the target of incredibly intents anti-abortion activity. Protests with thousands of people, fire bombings, constant death threats. Their doctors had bodyguards and were smuggled into Fargo in the back seats of cars. The clinic was featured on the cover of the New York Times Magazine.
And Susan loved all of the attention it got. It was her political statement against those who sought to make North Dakota an “abortion free state.”
At that time in Mississippi, there were two other abortion clinics that left much to be desired. “The women deserve better and I’m gonna build the Taj Majal right there in Jackson,” Susan told me. She was anxious to go into the belly of the beast and build a state of the art abortion facility in that backward state. Over the next year or two, she spent a lot of time flying back and forth to Jackson. I can still visualize her walking the streets in her skin tight dresses, usually a black ensemble that offset her outrageously blond hair. When she walked into a room at the Ritz in Manhattan, she attracted attention. I could only imagine the ruckus she caused in redneck country.
Susan ultimately built her clinic, which I was fortunate enough to visit on two occasions. It was a jewel, albeit an eyesore to the anti-abortion zealots who now had a new target. And they camped out front for years thereafter. But the clinic survived and served thousands and thousands of women.
A few years ago, Susan Hill died of breast cancer. I think of her often. And I could not help thinking about her again just a few days ago when I read that the Jackson Women’s Health Organization was on the verge of closing. It seems that the Health Department has announced that it would revoke the clinic’s operating license after an inspection found that it is has not complied with a state law that requires that all abortion doctors to maintain local hospital privileges. Closure of the clinic may take up to six weeks until a hearing can be held and a formal revocation can take place.
But I also heard that the clinic staff was fighting hard to keep the only clinic in Mississippi open. They are apparently grasping onto any straw and fighting at every turn to assure that women in that state have access to good reproductive health services.
They may or may not ultimately prevail. But their courageous efforts deserve much applause. I know Susan is rooting them on right now.

Only true salvation comes from Jehovah and the acceptance of Christ’s Ransom Sacrifice.
The idolatry of the Catholics and others is a crime against Christianity that is much worse than the evil of Abortion.
It appears to me Just Saying that you do not follow the One True God, and your path to salvation is in Peril.
I pray that you are able to accept the gift that Jehovah offers you and you do not remain blind to the One True Faith!
Abortion is a Sin, but it is a small sin compared to the crime you perpetrate by your false prophecy and misreading of scripture.
You will face Judgement one day. The Lord will not forgive you. You will be banished to Hell for eternity. Please learn the ways of being a true witness for Christ.
I pray for you Just Saying that you change your blasphemous ways.

JS, why not do your own research?
From Guttmacher,
In 2007, six women in the United States were reported to have died as a result of abortion complications.
From the CDC,
In 1992, 10 women died as a result of complications from legal induced abortion, and no deaths were reported associated with illegal abortion. In 1992, the case-fatality rate of legal induced abortion was 0.7 abortion-related deaths per 100,000 legal induced abortions. More current information, using national data from the Pregnancy Mortality Surveillance System (37), CDC identified 12 abortion-related deaths for 2008.
Okay so I’m supposed to believe FACTS from the GUTTMACHER INSTITUTE, a research division of PP, and the CDC (Center for Damage Control?!!) but you cry foul if a news item is submitted from OR?? Can anyone say hypocrisy??
Hey remember when Dr. Bernard Nathanson did the same thing – manipulated #’s of women that supposedly died of illegal abortions so that he would be able to pave the way to baby killing being legalized?? Why he even recanted of all his lies, left the baby killing industry and converted to Catholicism. Of course, I realize this will give all of you folks something else to bash. I have to admit I love getting you all going!! hehehe Isn’t it awful that your WHOLE ideology is based on LIES? Those of the lawyers for Norma McCorvey, Bernard Nathanson, etc…? LIES, LIES, and more LIES. Not a strong foundation – that’s why in the end you’ll lose and we’ll win!! LOL

But thing is JS they aren’t actual pictures of abortions, they are photo-shopped pictures of who knows what. Again you shouldn’t believe the stuff you see or read on OR’s website. The reason the pro-life websites turn my stomach is not because of the graphic pictures but because of blatant lies they publish. They do this to keep their puppets dancing and paying. I can see you are one of the puppets JS, which is sad. Take deep breath, step back and do some research into Troy Newman, and Cheryl Sullenger.
Also think about this one JS, our comments we make to one of posts here, post immediately, it does not have wait moderation. now on OR website any comment has to make it past the moderator, why, it if they are posting the truth the comments should not have to be moderated now should they?
The truth should be able to stand alone, any comment to the story would not matter because the story is true. See that is another sign that OR spins the truth and they don’t want comments that point that out.

So, for me the question is what are the actual facts? Or do we just assume that Lee was totally negligent? I mean, is that the right way to seek justice, by just listening to one side? And dont get me wrong – I know docs like Gosnell and a few others are total slimeballs. Lee is not that way. Indeed, you’d like him if you met him. I just prefer to not case any judgments until the facts are gathered…

JS, your conspiracy theory is utter balderdash. Your assumption about medical professionals’ intentions illustrate your own ignorance and desperation. What family would have shame about their daughter/wife/sister dying? Death is without shame. It is the people in the antiabortion industry who inflict shame, who stigmatize and who berate the medical community—people like you. You’re still wallowing in the tragedy of a woman’s death.
* * * * * *
Death is without shame? Sure – under normal circumstances it is but like it or not the truth is abortion is a VERY SHAMEFUL ‘procedure’ for most women AND their families. That is precisely why the abortionist and/or their associates are able to prey upon the deceased victim’s families and cover their tracks. The ‘utter balderdash’ I speak of is from actual testimonies of former abortionists and staff that have left the baby killing business much to their soul’s delight. They are also able to cover up medical malpractice that would have sent any other doc straight to the poor house from lawsuits again because they lie to their patients when something goes wrong during the ‘procedure’ i.e., their bowels are pulled from their body (one example). Women suffer severe consequences as a result of abortion that largely go unreported because it is a SHAMEFUL act she has committed and they choose to suffer in silence with their colostomies, infertility, hysterectomies, etc. Thankfully some families of deceased abortion victims are coming forward and exposing the ‘dead’ truth (pictorial) of just what abortion did to their daughters. Brave indeed to put their shame aside and try to warn others. Can’t imagine this will be good for the killing business,.
Abortion zealots say they need women to speak up about their abortion experiences – that this is the missing piece of the equation?? Well news flash – most of them are ASHAMED of what they did and feel tremendous guilt so they don’t speak up. There are some women who have suffered for years and have now come forward and courageously speak. They are members of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and talk about the horrors of their abortion experiences so as to try and warn women contemplating abortion not to do it. While there are women who speak up and say they don’t have any regrets, one has to wonder if they feel that way about the abortion they’re entire lives.
‘Wallowing in the tragedy of a woman’s death’ ? Wow – such a cold hearted statement – at least you admitted it was a tragedy. Good for you. It’s a start.

JS says, “Got to laugh, SR, when you can’t look at “those pro-life sites.” So what do you think when you see actual pics of abortions?? Not very pretty huh?”
Just saying, you haven’t answered one question I posed, and the above comment prompts two more.
The first question was, how do you feel about the fact that according to your religious beliefs, abortion results in direct entry to Heaven for a fetus.
The second question is, what do you think when you hear of someone like Ted Bundy killing from three to five dozen women? How does that compare with pictures of dismembered feti?
RESPONSIBLE Right to Life is an association of self-proclaimed “pro-lifers” who pledge to raise to adulthood every “unborn human” they want to “rescue.” Will you join? (I know you’re not yet a member.) As a member, you could at this very moment be raising an unwanted child properly, to prevent him from being the next Ted Bundy. But you aren’t!

Aborticentrism is a fixation on abortion to the exclusion of care for human life. As has been explained, the underlying cause is a conscious fear of death which is so great as to paralyze the subject. In order to function, the subject has to repress it, but the effort is so consuming that it leaves little energy for anything else. Not only that, but the repression will fail, and the fear will erupt in catastrophic ways.
So, the subject re-directs it, as we have seen, into an allegorical battle which allows him/her to be seen as a hero, but at little cost to him/herself.
Unchanged, however, is the subject’s obsessive-compulsive focus on abortion; in JUST SAYING’s case, never does she move outside the field of argument set down and rigidly controlled by the so-called “pro-life” movement. Not once does she consider the needs of a life after birth, contemplate the resources of energy, time, money and love required to shepherd a child safely from birth to adulthood, compute the variety of skills and talents a parent needs, or display a grasp of the communal effort needed to “respect life.”
Her participation in this discussion is quite valuable; it sustains the perception of the cancer that lies at the heart of a dysfunctional self-help program.

SR, sadly, these are NOT photo-shopped pictures. They are in fact dead pre-born human beings taken over the years. Just so you don’t believe everything you read on abortion sites, please verify the picture sources from Monica Mgliorino Miller, Phd. She documented photos and has written a book regarding her experience. The book is entitled, :Abandoned: The Untold Story of the Abortion Wars.”

Hi Pat,
I’m really sorry to say this but anyone who doesn’t see abortion as exactly what it is – the bloody killing of an innocent pre-born human being – and find that act to be reprehensible – does not ‘see the light of God.” I don’t know how you will be able to defend this horrific act on your judgment day. If you continue with your misguided compassion, I wish you well when meeting God.

just saying’s characterization of abortion as a “bloody killing of an innocent pre-born human being” is an excellent example of the defects underlying the so-called “pro-life” movement:
1. the use of “pre-born human being.” This statement assumes that every fetus will turn out to be a perfectly socialized human being. The fact is, at least 3% of them will commit acts of egregious violence upon others. The 97% who do not will commit lesser acts of violence upon others in their lifetime. The few who do not will have learned from childhood, not from the womb, to eschew violence.
2. The selection of the subject to rescue as being one that cannot contradict the statements and characterizations of the rescuer. Very few subjects of rescue are perforce mute: The Sierra Club “rescues” wilderness, but Mother Nature will kill you if you are stranded in the wilderness. Dolphins rape; eagles steal lambs; illegal immigrants (if you believe the wing nuts) will rape your father; drug-addled teens will tell you go to hell, and so on… Feti are practically alone in not being able to show they are not everything the so-called “pro-lifers” say they are– and yet one of them killed a friend of a friend in the fifteen minutes she was alone– eclampsia, boom! Her life could only have been saved by an abortion.
3. The selection of a subject which the “rescuer” CANNOT HELP! A so-called “pro-lifer” cannot protect the fetus from drugs, alcohol, tobacco by-products and nicotine, domestic stress, malnutrition.
4. The primacy of fetal life over real human life– the so-called “pro-lifers” are perverted catchers in the rye who sweep children past them towards an abyss. About one-third of the children fall into the abyss, but the so-called “pro-lifers” don’t care.
All of this has to do with their weird focus on fetal life, so strong as to preclude care for real human life– and js has to be commended at the very least for showing such a strong (if unnatural) focus.
