Pat, nobody kills another unless he or she “is in that situation” — desperate. But the law should protect people from desperadoes.

A pretty sentiment, John, but not grounded in reality. Military, executioners, hit men– none of them ipso facto desperate. They have a job to do, and they do it. I like your pitch to “protection,” though. That’s a pretty good rhetorical device to get people thinking that’s what you offer. If you can sell them on the concept of the “pre-born innocent,” you’re golden!

Legs, arms, torso, torture, blah, blah. I get it, John, I get it. And, yes, that’s what abortion is at some point. It’s not pretty. Can you ever project a little, have a little vision and think about the woman who is in that situation? Any feelings for her?

    That’s my long answer too.

Well, fait accompli! When Pat told me weeks ago that I had my own blog here, I jumped for joy. But then depressing news came in — Charles had one too. And not only that, his was more popular. I couldn’t believe it as I watched his numbers climb rapidly while mine moved hardly at all. Shortly he had 190 hits and I had half that.
So I resolved – Charles will never beat me at anything, and I became more provocative, and the hits started rolling in. Everybody forgot about Charles (which is the way it should be). So this, No. 194, now ties Charles for the lead. May the best man win, ahem.

I hate to say it but he was very nice, offered me a coke, asked me about my family and why I was out there. I told him I was praying for him to stop the killing. He gave me this garbage about how the women were coming to him on their own. We talked for about 30 minutes and he kind of freaked me out when he said he would “see you next week”!! I am not sure what kind of effect i had on him. Please help!

Pat– Foul language: I do not use swear words, period. This is not due to saintliness on my part, but because I was taught to be very self-repressing as a child. There are a lot of people like me who swallow their anger and never let society know. They display it instead in their blood pressure. An overwhelming number of them are sweet, overweight and elderly black people. They pay for it by either dying early or living for years incapacitated by stroke. ( I do THINK them often enough, however.)

I don’t like to hear four-year olds greet me with words like “You fucker!” I don’t know that it’s happened to you, but it’s happened in this town. I don’t suppose you’d want your baby at any age to be calling people “dickhead” when he can do so anonymously, as Bruce has done.

Bruce’s behavior I find disturbing. Scratch a so-called “pro-lifer” and find an underlying stream of viciousness? I believe the reason he goes over the top rather than continue in a reasoned discussion is that he is sensing powerlessness to which he can only respond by reverting to a lower level of mental control, letting loose the more animal impulses.

This clearly is not a good role model for children in this given situation. Which is why I wonder if his child knows he talks like this.

However, I believe that Bruce’s conduct is typical of very many so-called “pro-lifers.” He just let the mask slip, that’s all.

He has NOT answered my question! To say “there are some good points to be said for both” is sheer laziness if not crafty avoidance on his part. Were I Bruce, this is the sort of answer I would give:

The merits of raising a child: 1. You get to impress upon them the values you feel are worthy in life and the skills you feel will help them cope well. 2. Dependent deductions on taxes. 3. You have a chance to avoid the errors your parents made. 4. You get to do with them all the things you wanted to do when you were a kid. 5. Admiring looks from women not your wife who see you carrying the baby. 6. Baleful glances from their husbands who see you carrying the baby. 7. Warm fuzzygrams from teachers on the kid’s school performance. 8. Learning about the world through the eyes of a juvenile. 9. Being seen as a source of power and authority. 10. Earning the trust of a child. 11. Being appreciated for changing diapers and getting up for 2 AM feedings. 12. Knowing I’m a good provider and a good dad.

None of this has crossed Bruce’s mind, you must understand.

Now: so-called “pro-life” stalker: 1. Being seen as a hero for the unborn. 2. Fighting agains torture. 3. Being favored of God. 4. Time commitment much more flexible than parenting. 5. Being creative. 6. Earning credit in Heaven. 7. Earning praise from people of the same ilk as I. 8. Reducing the number of abortions. 9. Able to set aside the work whenever I want to. 10. I make the rules.

However, as I am not Bruce, I can only guess at what he might have to say. That he cannot engage in this discourse is sad, and it also makes me wonder whether his job at the Children’s Defense Fund isn’t in the mailroom.

Being gay and being pro-choice are not connected. There are plenty of gay anti-choicers, Johhny.

How did you find out he was gay? Did he hit on you?

Anyway, there is no reason why you can’t expand your horizons ( with the churches, not the bishop ) and protest other churches that you feel are neutral.

I’m sure there’s more than one church in your city.

You would get far more exposure protesting churches than you would staff members.

You kind of mangled this question, SB. First I’ll rephrase it and then answer the rephrased question. If that’s not satisfactory, try again.

Question: When you protest the way you do, John, you upset lots of neighbors, neutral people who have no stake in this issue. Are you comfortable with upsetting them too?

Answer: I am, SB, because every citizen has a stake in a law that allows some people to kill others. Those who try to stay away from the issue, are actually more guilty than those who get involved.

Actually, I did not mangle the question, I would venture to say that you did not like the question and wanted it rephrased.

That would have been simple enough for you to remedy.

But be that as it may, given the answer that you gave, that those who remain neutral, and that you believe that you are on a mission from your god, why not protest in front of churches that are not involved with your protests?

Surely as your fellow christians they should have the same stakes as you do in this.

Why not protest that they remain neutral?
